THE FINNISH RABBIT ASSOCIATION | Founded in 1989 and a member of the Nordic Standard. |
The Finnish Rabbit Association is an organization for all rabbit Fanciers; just as well for breeders as for people who fantasize rabbits. There are about 500 members at the moment from baby to grandpa. There are three district clubs in Uusimaa, Oulu and Pirkanmaa.
The official magazine of the association is called Kanimakaziini and it appears 4 times a year.
There are about 30 to 35 different breeds in Finland from the Flemish Giant to the tiny Polish. The most common breeds are the Holland Lop and the Netherland Dwarf. There are many registered breeders, which are listed in "Kasvattajat"-link.
The Finnish Rabbit Association holds shows for rabbits; show classes for purebred rabbits and pet-classes for all rabbits over 2 months old, including neutered and cocktails too. There are about 8 to 10 shows per year held around Finland. In the biggest shows there can be over 300 rabbits and in middle sized shows around 200 rabbits.
Every year the association awards the Best Breeder, Best Show Rabbit and Best Pet class rabbit. The association also acknowledges the Finnish Championship titles ( FIN CH). We have three domestic show judges, four judge trainees and over 10 Pet-class judges.
The rabbit jumping division was founded in May 2002. It informs jumping competitions and maintains general information of rabbit jumping. Competitions are usually held at almost every show and also at separate occasions. Rabbit jumping is very popular and it gains more and more amateurs every year. The Finnish Rabbit association awards every year the Best Jumping Rabbit.
All sorts of different educational courses are arranged of different themes such as color genetics, breeder lectures, training and club meetings etc.
The Finnish Rabbit Association maintains a studbook for all purebred rabbits by registering them. In 2006 a total of 900 rabbits were registered. A rabbit has to be over 6 months old and must achieve a acceptable show result so that it can be registered.
The Finnish Rabbit association has a board which is 2009 put up of the following members President Laura Mehtonen
